How To Play Apex Legends Like A Pro Without Being A Pro

Have you ever been playing Apex Legends and the whole time you are trying not to throw your controller at the monitor? I see this time and time again and let me tell you, as someone who has been playing Apex since season one (and as someone who has witnessed all of Apex's rises and falls) I can confidently say: You are not alone!
Apex Legends is a popular first-person shooter, battle royal game that has taken over gaming as we know it. The game play itself is very simple and depended on what game mode you choose. For the sake of this explanation let's just stick with battle royal game mode. To start, you pick a legend, then load into the game with three other players. Once you land anywhere on the map, you hurry to gathering loot, evo points (points that increase your shields) and run around until you find another squad to eliminate, while at the same time avoiding the ring closing in on you. If you are successful, and become the last squad standing, you and your squad will be named CHAMPION! To watch a tutorial, check out the Video on the EA Website.
Now by this point you may be wondering "how does knowing how to play the game make me a pro?" Well sorry to break it to you, but simply knowing how to play the game does not guarantee your success.
Three things that I have gathered throughout my years of playing this game, that has helped me become a better apex player are:
- Pick the character that works for YOU
- Move fast and then move faster
- Learn how and when to slow down
In all of my years of playing I was pretty much playing whatever character was relevant to the season Apex was currently in, and it was not until I decided to try them all out that I discovered that the reason I was not playing as good as I could be, is because I had not found the character that best fits my style of playing (which is passive and aggressive). To learn more about each individual character and their capabilities I suggest visiting the EA Apex website.
After taking the time to study each legends skill and tactical abilities, I can confidently say that I am an Ash main.
Next, we have "Move fast and then move faster." All characters move at their own pace, but learning how to make the map work for your movement is a vital skill. Wall jumping, sliding and jumping, and some characters' ultimate, are all important when it comes to moving faster than when you believe to be as fast as you can go.
Lastly, learning how and when to slow down can ultimately be the deciding factor in your success (especially while playing ranked). While you want to run fast to avoid ring closure, or squads that are way out of your league, slowing down and watching for an opportunity to third party or to simply listen for the enemies' footsteps can change the outcome of your game.
DO NOT CAMP! Everyone hates a camper, but if you are near an enemy and you want to surprise attack, that is absolutely acceptable. Because rushing into a fight is rarely beneficial.
The EA website gives more tips and tricks on how to become a better Apex player OR find a streamer who is very good at the game and study how they move. Watching Swole_Hokage on Twitch, for example, has allowed me to replicate some of his game plays and it has ultimately made me a better player.
HAPPY PLAYING!
